Places to visit

Le Mont Saint Michel

Le Mont Saint Michel

One of France's most recognizable landmarks visited by more than three million people each year. The gothic style Benedictine abbey dedicated to the Archangel Saint Michael is an Unesco World Heritage site.  Le Mont is twenty five minutes, by car, from Le Jardin B&B

Fougères

Fougères

The main reason to visit Fougères is to see its magnificent castle, one of the finest fortresses in Europe, but this little town on the Brittany-Normandie border also has a lovely medieval district and gardens.  Fougères is thirty five minutes, by car, from Le Jardin B&B.

The Parc Floral de Haute Bretagne is nearby.  A twenty five hectare private estate open to the public

Saint Malo

Saint Malo

Founded by the Welsh monk Saint Maclou, Saint Malo was well known as a hotbed of privateers (pirates approved by the King).  The intra-muros (literally inside the walls) cobbled district of the old town is fascinating.  Walk around the ramparts, the Musée de la Ville or eat in one of the many restaurants.  On the outskirts of Saint Malo is the Grand Aquarium.  Saint Malo is fifty minutes form Le Jardin B&B.

Dinan

Dinan

Dinan is arguably one of Brittany's most attractive and best preserved small towns.  The port is lovely, the quay being lined with old stone houses, many of which have been converted to restaurants.  The Rue du Petit-Fort, a steep cobbled hill, with its half timbered buildings, many of which are now art and craft shops, leads to Dinan's old town.

Ducey

Ducey

Ducey, since 1992 a 'Ville Fleurie' and 2001 a 'Village  Etape' at 7kms is the nearest town to Le Jardin B&B.

There are restaurants. supermarkets, boulangeries, and ATMs here.  A small but flourishing market selling local produce on a Tuesday morning.

Le Château des Montgommery.  Built at the beginning of the 17th Century by Gabriel 2e de Montgommery, son of the infamous Gabriel who was responsible for the last case of Regicide in France. He caused the death at a tournament of Henry 2e. Oops.

Granville and Christian Dior museum.

Granville and Christian Dior museum.

Granville is a thriving and beautiful resort town; with an array of restaurants, creperies and museums.  Christian Dior spent his childhood here and the old pink villa where he used to live is now a museum.

It is also possible to catch a ferry to spend a day on the magical Iles de Chausey from Granville.

Beaches

Beaches

Genets, 25 minutes by car, is the nearest beach to Le Jardin B&B.  There are lovely views from here across the bay to le Mont Saint Michel.  From Genets all the way up the Manche coast to Granville and beyond are lovely beaches.  Genets, Carolles, Julloville, the wonderfully named Saint Jean le Thomas.

Going West round the bay of Mont Saint Michel towards Cancale and continuing on to Saint Malo are further lovely beaches; including for those of such inclination, a couple of 'naturisme' plages! (Further details on request!)

Cancale

Cancale

A picturesque fishing port famed for its seafood restaurants.  The Oyster capital of Brittany, the 7 kms of oyster beds are visible at low tides. If seafood is a fancy then a visit to Cancale is a must!
